The Vineyard
Saffron Vineyard sits at 600 meters on the western slopes of Mount Veeder — one of Napa Valley's most storied and unforgiving sub-appellations. Here, the vines grow in volcanic soils on steep grades, pushed by cool Pacific breezes and forced by the altitude to dig deep.
This is a family-run estate committed to organic farming. No shortcuts. No synthetic inputs. The grapes express what the land gives them — nothing more, nothing less. When Shin and Yuko Kibayashi tasted the fruit of this vineyard, they knew they had found the terroir they had been writing about for twenty years.
Why Terroir?
Terroir. The one word that refuses to be defined. It holds the sun and shadow, the stone and rain, the quiet patience of roots and the sudden laughter of harvest. It is the story the land tells when no one is speaking.
We don't try to tame that story. We try to listen to it from every angle. Each block, each row, each vintage is a different voice of the same place, a new chapter written in soil, wind, and time. From those many voices come multiple expressions of one terroir, like panels in a manga that together reveal a single, deeper truth.
This is our dedication: to the vineyards that give us their many faces, to the farmers and winemakers who draw those faces into the glass, and to "Terroir" itself, the name we chose because nothing else could hold all that this place has to say.
The Wine
Prologue RED 2022 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc — organically grown on the volcanic slopes of Mount Veeder at 600 meters elevation. The cool climate and demanding terrain produce grapes of extraordinary concentration and complexity.
Only 600 bottles were produced. No compromises. No shortcuts. This wine is the embodiment of terroir — the sun, the soil, the rain, the human hand — all converging in a single glass.
